REPAIRED Gloverall - Monty Duffle Coat - Camel - The Original
Description:
UNFORTUNATELY, THIS GLOVERALL COAT HAS MINOR DAMAGE.
WE HAVE REPAIRED THE COAT TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY.
DAMAGE IS UNDERNEATH THE HOOD. CIRCLED IN THE PICTURE.
Is this the duffle coat’s ultimate form? Gloverall’s 'Monty' Duffle in arctic white feels like a logical consolation of sorts, for a jacket that has a curious history: beginning in Belgium (where it was named after the town that produced the fabric), eventually being canonised into British military use during the Second World War, then arriving in surplus shops in the UK in the wake of the War (proving popular with young people and remaining a hooded, toggled staple of contemporary fashion ever since). The humble duffle arrives here glowingly rendered in expert materials, optimised by modern design and truly a sight to behold.
Named after Field Marshall Montgomery, the Monty is made from an Italian wool blend with cotton herringbone webbing interior. Fitted with fixed shoulder cape and throat tab (plus jute-ropes and near-incandescent toggles, of course) this is undeniably an authentic duffle, but the butter-smooth cut of the fabric and its sleek, sparingly appointed trim — as well as its startlingly singular colour — mark it out as a modern masterpiece in its own right, while an intentionally slightly oversized fit is key for allowing extra layers to be added underneath in the chilliest months.
