The best gloves for the winter season - and how to get the right size

As the weather has been getting chillier we thought we’d take a look at some of the best gloves to keep warm and stylish. And what better way to do that then by looking at the offerings from Dents. While Dents are one of the most established leather merchants in the country, supplying both the Royal family and James Bond, none of that really matters because their gloves are great. They feel great, look great and have fantastic variety that caters to every occasion and person. I’ve already snagged a pair of the Durham’s for my dad who is impossible to buy Christmas gifts for (just don’t tell him!).

The Lymington is a great offering. It’s a simple, fingerless glove for everyday use and it’s certainly aptly named. It would be at home on a Christmas Day walk in the New Forest as much as it would be keeping your hands extra toasty holding onto a warm hot chocolate. The wool blend is just right, giving a wonderful softness in the hand. My personal preference is for the versatile charcoal but the black is a lovely bold choice. Both colours are £19. A wonderful bonus of Dents is just how local they are. Based in Warminster, they’re only a 21.7 mile journey to our shop in Salisbury (yes I did check). So when you buy a pair of their handmade gloves from us, you really are getting the best local, quality craftsmanship

For those who enjoy country pursuits in the winter months or simply want some exibility the Glock is a good choice. This lambswool fingerless glove have a nicely integrated mitt for when the cold really starts to nip. They’re a practical, popular option and we’re already running low.

But what is the point of a glove if not to keep your hands cosy and warm? The Dorchester is the best choice when it comes keeping your digits defrosted. It’s a wonderful hand stitched lambskin glove, with a loose t. Inside it retains its natural wool for a truly cosy feel and excellent heat retention. Presented in an elegant suede, this premium glove is suited to frosty days and is the perfect companion on trips to colder climates. If any of these gloves do take your fancy it’s always worth popping into the shop to see them for yourself. But if ordering online is better for you (especially at this time of year) Regent founder Jason has written a handy guide on how to size gloves (pun fully intended). You can nd it on the page for each glove and at the bottom of this article.

The style of a quality leather glove is timeless. In this regard Dents have two offerings: the Mendip and the Berkeley. The Mendip is a simple and classic Ocer’s glove with a wool lining. They’re a versatile glove, easily dovetailing with the rest of your out for both casual and smart occasions. Then, for the ultimate in sophistication, there’s the Berkeley. This English hand stitched, silk lined leather glove is the mark of ultimate craftsmanship. Able to adapt to both warm and cooler season thanks to it’s 100% silk interior, it’s elegant three point design and ultra ne hair sheep leather make this the best premium glove. If given as a gift, it will be cherished year round.

The Dent name is synonymous with quality. Aside from providing the Royal family gloves they also made the gloves for Daniel Craig’s James Bond. In honour of that connection Dents crafted the Fleming. This English handmade leather driving glove speaks of elegant class and is the same glove worn by Daniel Craig in 2015’s Spectre. The perforated details are counterpointed by the absence of a keyhole. Perhaps Q branch was on call as they also work with touchscreens keeping this stylish classic functional today. Overall it’s a superb glove which is the perfect choice for both the lm fan and motoring enthusiast.

But the spot for my personal favourite goes to the Durham. To start with it’s a great looking classic knitted glove. With navy, olive and charcoal colour options it eortlessly compliments most winter styles making it a natural everyday choice. It’s an aordable £25 which is excellent for a glove of this quality. The wool construction is light and breathable. Inside it’s enhanced by an additional layer of Thinsulate. It’s a special material which traps heat and not moisture, so you can keep you hands extra warm and dry. As someone who suers poor circulation this is something I especially appreciate. I think Dents have hit on an almost perfect alchemy of quality, practicality and style for everyday use in the Durham glove.

No matter what which gloves keep your hands toasty we want to wish you a warm winter from all of us at Regent. We hope to see you soon.

Ps. If you’re looking for a last minute Christmas present, Dents offerings also extend to some lovely leather wallets and British made belts.

Jason’s guide to sizing gloves:

Use a fabric tape measure round the widest part of your dominant hand (excluding the thumb) to get your hand measurement. If you are between sizes, round down to the nearest whole or half number.

S (7.5 or 8) - 19 to 20.5cm or 7.5 to 8"

M (8.5 or 9) - 21.5 to 23cm or 8.5 to 9"

L (9.5 or 10) - 24 to 26cm or 9.5 to 10"

XL (10.5 or 11) - 27 to 28.5cm or 10.5 to 11"

XXL (11.5) - 29.5cm or 11.5"
